BLOG 2: 5(0) SHADES OF MEO

BLOG 2: 5(0) SHADES OF MEO

Hey, gorgeous, welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be filming 5(0) shades or more like 5(0) shots, of my lovely baby, Meo. I'll include the underlying meaning of each shot as well as some complications I encountered. (So DON'T worry, baby girls, I'll guide you through the procedure.) With that being said, let's JUMP into today's blog!!!

Close-Up Shot

I achieved this shot by taking it at close range, especially in the face region. I purposely chose this to display Meo's facial features, which can help show face expressions and emotion. This will make it easier for the viewer to comprehend Meo's emotional state (and, as you can see, it is sleepy in this case). Compared to other shots, this was fairly easy to capture, as Meo was kind of exhausted when this shot was taken, so she didn't move much.

Extreme Close-Up Shot

I achieved this by doing a tighter shot that focused more on Meo's eye. I purposely chose this to display the extreme details on her eye, which helps create an overwhelming tension from the beasty stare being shown on screen. This further discloses the dominant traits of the Felidae family in nature (my baby girl is so MAJESTIC!). The hardest part of filming this shot is keeping the camera still. As I used the zoom-in tool on my phone, the smallest movement can cause a big vibration that can tremendously decrease the shot quality (and yes, I am a perfectionist, so it took me a while to find a decent one).

Full Shot

I achieved this shot by capturing all of Meo's body parts in the frame. I purposely chose this to display Meo's body language and face expression; the viewers could infer Meo's current emotional state through the behavior and reaction that was being acted out. In this case, she appears to be calmly grooming herself with a satisfied expression, from which the viewer can infer that she's relaxed. I had a hard time filming this shot, as she always ran to me instead of sitting steadily for me to video type her (but I'm NOT complaining as she did all this because of LOVE).

Over the Shoulder Shot

I achieved this shot by positioning my camera behind Meo's shoulder. I purposely chose this to portray the absolute relationship between her survival instinct and the food; this helps highlight the unspoken connection between living things and their basic needs. It took me quite a while to get a perfect shot, as Meo's shoulder is not as defined as a human (because she's a petite and demure girl) so I needed to make lots of adjustments to find the perfect angle.

Overhead Shot

I achieved this shot by using a 0.5 camera lens and shooting directly at 90 degree angles above Meo's head. I purposely chose this to portray Meo as a powerless, vulnerable character. With a view directly from the top, it gives the viewer a sense of power, almost like a superior divine figure. This shot also helps to isolate Meo from the whole setting, resulting in a lonely impression. With all of these factors combined, this shot may help gain some viewers' empathy for the pitiful image that is being created. This shot was the easiest to film as Meo was being really corporate with the filming section (in the end, I gave her a treat for being my lovely cameo).

BLOG 1: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

BLOG 1: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Hey, beautiful, welcome to my first ever blog!

I go by the name Minh, but some people call me Mimi or Minnie (so make yourself comfortable, gorgeous). I was born and raised in a s-shaped country called Vietnam. I spent all 12 of my childhood years there, until the day my parents decided to move to America. Not going to lie, it was VERY sudden for me; it took me a total of 2 years just to get out of my "comfort zone," a computer that used to be my main way of communicating with others. Who would have thought that the young timid girl would be a senior now (and yes, I am PROUD of myself).

SECRET TIME!! The school held me back one year, so I'll be 19 years old by the time I graduate (this is TOP SECRET), so I'm practically a young adult. Despite that, I don't act that mature compared to my age; at least that's what my sisters ALWAYS say. I was fortunate enough to be born into a lovely family with my parents, my precious baby cat and my two "not-too-lovely" sisters. We have a love-hate relationship that's hard to explain but it works out the majority of the time so I'm NOT complaining.

Some of my hobbies are reading, listening to music, watching movies, and cooking (but especially not the cleaning part). Also, I started to go to the gym not too long ago and it has been my favorite form of exercise. If you can't tell by now, I am OBSESSED with green. Every green theme object is a must; you'll probably be surprised by the amount of green objects I own.

FUN FACT: My current name is actually my middle name. The American name system switched my middle and first names around.

"Why do I choose this course over other AICE classes?"

You’re probably asking why I take this class. To be honest, I’m just as clueless as you are; however, my interest in music videos may have driven me to try this course. At such a young age, I have always been exposed to different forms of media, either television, phone or simply a flyer. Media has always been in my life, so in some aspects, I can say that I am unconsciously attracted to media.

기도(I'll be your man) by BTOB
As I grew a bit older, the K-pop culture spread to neighboring countries; Vietnam was also under its influence. K-pop groups are often popularized through their mesmerizing visuals and talents that have been captured through professional shots. Along with it are the captative editing skills that give the music video an elevated experience

기도(I'll be your man) by BTOB is the song that brought me into the K-Pop world. The video utilizes various shot angles, unique lighting, and intentional scene organization that try to create depth to story. Therefore, through the context of this class, I wish to learn the editing and filming skills that are being implemented in one of my favorite music videos of all time. Additionally, I want to learn more about the meaning behind all the shot angles and video effects used to fully appreciate the video's message that the group worked so hard to create.
