BLOG 2: 5(0) SHADES OF MEO
Hey, gorgeous, welcome back to my blog!
Today I will be filming 5(0) shades or more like 5(0) shots, of my lovely baby, Meo. I'll include the underlying meaning of each shot as well as some complications I encountered. (So DON'T worry, baby girls, I'll guide you through the procedure.) With that being said, let's JUMP into today's blog!!!
Close-Up Shot
I achieved this shot by taking it at close range, especially in the face region. I purposely chose this to display Meo's facial features, which can help show face expressions and emotion. This will make it easier for the viewer to comprehend Meo's emotional state (and, as you can see, it is sleepy in this case). Compared to other shots, this was fairly easy to capture, as Meo was kind of exhausted when this shot was taken, so she didn't move much.
Extreme Close-Up Shot
I achieved this by doing a tighter shot that focused more on Meo's eye. I purposely chose this to display the extreme details on her eye, which helps create an overwhelming tension from the beasty stare being shown on screen. This further discloses the dominant traits of the Felidae family in nature (my baby girl is so MAJESTIC!). The hardest part of filming this shot is keeping the camera still. As I used the zoom-in tool on my phone, the smallest movement can cause a big vibration that can tremendously decrease the shot quality (and yes, I am a perfectionist, so it took me a while to find a decent one).
Full Shot
I achieved this shot by capturing all of Meo's body parts in the frame. I purposely chose this to display Meo's body language and face expression; the viewers could infer Meo's current emotional state through the behavior and reaction that was being acted out. In this case, she appears to be calmly grooming herself with a satisfied expression, from which the viewer can infer that she's relaxed. I had a hard time filming this shot, as she always ran to me instead of sitting steadily for me to video type her (but I'm NOT complaining as she did all this because of LOVE).
Over the Shoulder Shot
I achieved this shot by positioning my camera behind Meo's shoulder. I purposely chose this to portray the absolute relationship between her survival instinct and the food; this helps highlight the unspoken connection between living things and their basic needs. It took me quite a while to get a perfect shot, as Meo's shoulder is not as defined as a human (because she's a petite and demure girl) so I needed to make lots of adjustments to find the perfect angle.
Overhead Shot
I achieved this shot by using a 0.5 camera lens and shooting directly at 90 degree angles above Meo's head. I purposely chose this to portray Meo as a powerless, vulnerable character. With a view directly from the top, it gives the viewer a sense of power, almost like a superior divine figure. This shot also helps to isolate Meo from the whole setting, resulting in a lonely impression. With all of these factors combined, this shot may help gain some viewers' empathy for the pitiful image that is being created. This shot was the easiest to film as Meo was being really corporate with the filming section (in the end, I gave her a treat for being my lovely cameo).
Hey Minh!!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m absolutely drawn in by the aesthetic theme of your blog. As I scroll through your posts, it’s clear just how much you adore your cat, and as a fellow cat lover, I totally get it!
My favorite shots are definitely the full shot and the extreme close-up. They’re such a great contrast, and you’ve clearly put in a lot of effort to highlight their differences. The full shot gives me a nice sense of the background, showing Meo hanging out inside and looking completely at ease in her surroundings. It’s a great way to see how comfortable and connected she feels with her environment.
On the flip side, the extreme close-up shot is amazing because it zoom in on Meo’s eyes. While I don’t get much of the background, I’m captivated by how beautiful and expressive her eyes are. She might look a bit grumpy and sleepy, but her gaze really communicates her emotions.
Keep up the fantastic work!
Heey BBG!! :3 I have to say I loved the idea of the videos. The most I was drawn in by was definitely the extremely close-up shot; it really captures Meo's feelings, even though theres not much shown for the background, the shot itself looks amazing as the close up focuses on Meo's beautiful eyes! Another one I found interesting was the overhead shot. It really captures Meo in her surroundings. The shot also makes Meo look more vulnerable as it makes her seem so small compared to her environment.
ReplyDeletemeo is an absolute star, what a hard worker. seriously, though, it musnt have been easy to capture her in all her gorgeous moments. especially not the overhead shot. if there is one thing that i know about animals, its that they usually dont stay still (like you highlighted when talking about the full shot.) so i HAVE to commend you for that hehe. i really liked the way it kept her in the focus of the frame, and how she looked up! besides that, i also really liked the extreme closeup of meo's eye. it felt very surreal, and not just because of meo's beauty and grace. her sleepiness was definetly captured very well in the shot. overall, i think you and the amazing model did a great job!
